VIRGINIA, to wit,
By His Excellency the Right Honourable JOHN Earl of DUNMORE, his
Majesty's Lieutenant and Governor General of the said Colony and Dominion,
and Vice Admiral of the Same:

A PROCLOMATION

For disolving the GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
WHEREAS the General Assembly stand prorogued to the fourth Thursday in this month. And
whereas I have thought fit, for divers Considerations regarding his Majesty's Service, to dissolve
the said Assembly: I have therefore, by and with the Advice and Consent of His Majesty's Council issu-
ed this Proclamation, declaring the said Assembly to be dissolved; and is hereby dissolved according-
ly. Of which all his Majesty's Subjects within this Colony are required to take Notice.
GIVEN under my hand, and the Seal of the Colony, at Williamsburg, this 12th day of Octo-
ber, 1771, and in the eleventh Year of his Majesty's Reign.

therefore thought fit, by and with the Advice of his Majesty's Council, by this Proclamation, in his
Majesty's Name, further to prorogue the said Assembly to the second Thursday in January next
which Time their Attendance is required at the Capitol, in the City of Williamsburg.
GIVEN under my Hand, and the Seal of the Colony, at Williamsburg aforesaid, this 12th Day
of
December, 1771, and in the twelfth Year of his Majesty's Reign.

Junior, Esquire. KNOW YE that, by Virtue of the Powers and Authorities to me grant-
ed by his Majesty, I do hereby authorize and impower you, the said William Nelson, Thomas Nelson,
Richard Corbin, William Byrd, Philip Ludwell Lee, John Tayloe, Robert Carter, Robert Burwell,
George William Fairfax, John Page, James Horrocks,
and Ralph Wormeley, Junior, or any two of
you, to administer the Oaths appointed by Act of Parliament to be taken, instead of the Oaths of alle-
giance and Supremacy, the Oath appointed to be taken by an Act of Parliament, made in the sixth Year
of the Reign of his present Majesty King George the Third, intituled An Act for altering the Oath of
Abjuration, and the Assurance, and for ammending so much of an Act of the seventh Year of her late
Majesty Queen
Anne, intituled An Act for the Improvement of the Union of the two Kingdoms, as after
the Time therein limited requires the Delivery of certain Lists and Copies therein mentioned to Persons
indicted of High Treason, or Misprision of Treason
; as also the Test, to all such Persons as are or
shall be returned to serve in this present General Assembly, as Burgesses; as also to the Clerk of the
House of Burgesses, or Clerks of any of the Committees of the said House, that shall be appointed du-
ring this Session; and to cause them to subscribe to the said last mentioned Oath, as also the Test; and to
adminster the Oath of Clerk to the Clerk of the said House; and also to the Clerk or Clerks of Com-
mittees.

THURSDAY, the 6th of FEBRUARY, 12 GEORGE III, 1772.

The Right Honourable JOHN Earl of DUNMORE, his Majesty's
Lieutenant and Governor General of the Colony and Dominion of
Virginia, and Vice Admiral of the same, having, by Proclamation here-
unto annexed, and Writs of Summons bearing date the 31st Day of
October last, called the General Assembly to meet this Day; and having
made a Commission, under his Hand, and the Seal of the Colony, here-
unto also annexed, to the Honourable William Nelson, Thomas Nelson,
Richard Corbin, William Byrd, Philip Ludwell Lee, John Tayloe, Robert
Carter, Robert Burwell, George William Fairfax, John Page,
Esquires,
James Horrocks, Clerk, and Ralph Wormeley, Junior, Esquire, for admi-
nestering the Oaths appointed to be taken by the Members of the House
of Burgesses; and several of the said Commissioners attending in the
Council Chamber, the usual Place for administering the said Oaths to
the Members of the House of Burgesses at the Opening of a General As-
sembly; and Benjamin Waller, Esquire, Clerk of the Secretary's Office,
having delivered in a Book of the Names of such Members as had been
returned; and George Wythe, Clerk of the House of Burgesses, attending,
according to his Duty, the said Commissioners administered the said
Oaths to such Members of the House of Burgesses as then appeared; and
the [rubbing] being a sufficient Number of them to proceed to Business, up-
on Intemation that the General Assembly was to be therefore pro-
rogued, the Members went again to the Council Chamber, where the
Proclamation was read for proroguing the General Assembly until To-
morrow; which Proclamation is as followeth, viz.

VIRGINIA to wit,
WHEREAS this Day was by me appointed for the meeting of the General Assembly, but the Bad-
ness of the Roads has prevented the Number of Burgesses requisite to make a House from attend-
ing; I have therefore thought fit, by and with the Advice and Content of his Majesty's Council, by this
Proclamation, in his Majesty's Name, to prorogue the said Assembly until Tomorrow; at which Time
their Attendance is required at the Capitol, in the City of Williamsburg, for the Dispatch of public
Business.

GIVEN under my Hand, and the Seal of the Colony, at Williamsburg, aforesaid, this 6th Day
of February, 1772, and in the twelfth Year of his Majesty's Reign.

General Assembly was to be again prorogued by Proclamation, they
went up to the Council Chamber; where the Proclamation was read, for
proroguing the General Assembly until Tomorrow; which Proclamation
is as followeth, viz.

VIRGINIA, to wit,
WHEREAS this Day was by me appointed for the meeting of the General Assembly, but the Bad-
ness of the Roads has prevented the Number of Burgesses requisite to make a House from at-
tending; I have therefore thought fit, by and with the Advice and Consent of his Majesty's Council, by
